Looking for Miku Anniversary at PMX [2022]!

04 October 2022

Can you believe it’s been almost three years since the last time we screened Looking for Miku?! :O

Thanks to the pandemic, we haven’t been able to go to a con since Anime Los Angeles back in January 2020. We even missed our fifth anniversary, which would’ve taken place last year! 😦

Well, fret not, since we’ll be returning to Pacific Media Expo and screening on Friday, 21 October, at 7PM! And since we were given a longer-than-usual block, we’re going to do something we’ve been meaning to do for a while — screen the annotated version of the film!

Looking for Miku is my love letter to anime and pop culture so it’s chock full of Easter eggs; from sight gags to lines of dialogue, there’s some sort of homage every 24 seconds! With onscreen notes, the annotated version will point them all out as well as share bits of trivia about the production.

Looking for Miku PMX22

Come watch the award-winning* anime fan film, chat with the filmmakers about it, then see how many of the geek references you caught with the annotated version! (Admission to PMX is required to attend). RSVP on Facebook, and hope to see you there!

Great to have my friend David Infante (the film’s producer) share the stage with me. Apparently I wasn’t very audible during the Q&A session so I apologize; next time I’ll try to get closer to the mic. ^^; Hope to see you all again soon!

Sorry for the late notice but we just found out ourselves — Looking for Miku will be at Pacific Media Expo this weekend!

Pacific Media Expo 2016, Days 1-2

26 September 2017

Pacific Media Expo returned to its traditional weekend in November for 2016! These’ve actually been sitting for a while but haven’t gone up ’til now b/c Looking for Miku and lazy. ^^;

The Guest of Honor was Hitomi of @home cafe, a maid cafe in Japan. Even though she isn’t really a well-known artist, she put on a great show.

The show actually ran for a little under an hour, including the giveaway (which included calling audience members up on stage) and the group photo.

Hitomi looked right at me! 😀

One of my friends noticed Spawn‘s Michael Jai White in the lobby.

Had never heard of BiS before this late-night panel.

Swap meet was kind of nuts, lol.

The Chillin’ with Voice Actors panel ran late since they apparently started late, so we were bumped back like half an hour. :/

Closed out the night (and con) with Captain Savvy’s Singalong Crew.

PMX 2016 was PMX; mostly hanging out with friends, checking out the main concert and swap meet, and screening Looking for Miku.

See the full album on my Fan Page on Facebook and be sure to Like The Vault on Facebook, where I’m finally caught up through 2010! 😀

Looking for Miku Tadaima Screening! [2016]

15 November 2016

Thank you to everyone who attended AGC Pictures‘s Looking for Miku panel at PMX and who otherwise supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

Although we had a bit of a late start due to the panel before us running late, we were able to screen the film and do a brief Q&A. I was very happy to have my friend (and one of our leads) Jackson Chong join me! Thanks for all the great questions and I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the film and panel. Please join us again next time!

PMX CosFest Masquerade [2015]

23 February 2016

Hadn’t taken in a CosFest Masquerade at PMX in ages, so decided to check it out on Day 2 of PMX 2015 with my friends.

Pretty sure this girl from the Kamen Rider group is the same girl as the one in blue at the PMX/Infotakus Cosplay Runway Show held during the Cherry Blossom Festival in April!

Takeriya Samurai cosplays from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Robot Unichuck Cosplay did a dance performance.

Chibi Cosplay did a Miku dance!

Not sure what this is from, but it was pretty awesome!

Sparkle Raptors also did a dance performance.

This League of Legends cosplayer’s martial arts skills were great!

The emcee was surprised when a staffer came up to announce that it was his birthday.

These Monster Hunter cosplays were impressive!

While I do list the winners in the Facebook album (since they were listed on the PMX website, lol), I can’t place a lot of the entries. Feel free to help identify cosplayers, characters, and origins!

See the full album on my Fan Page on Facebook and be sure to Like The Vault on Facebook, where I’m finally caught up through 2010! 😀

Femme Fatale Concert at PMX 2015

09 February 2016

On Day 1 of PMX, I took in the Femme Fatale concert with a bunch of friends. Since we had press passes, we were able to get super close for the first three songs!

Even though I’ve taken tons of photos at performances by my friends, this is the first time I’ve ever been in a “photo pit”. We were in a roped-off section right between the VIP area of the audience and the stage, so there was very little room to maneuver around other photogs. Apologies to anyone I may’ve bumped as I tried to get different angles!

Some of my female friends said lead singer Kaya is prettier than a lot of girls, lol.

Had to grey-scale it out, but I really like this one!

I was shooting 50mm for a lot of these since it has a wide aperture, but that also means sometimes it gets too close!

I kind of feel like there should be a Bat-symbol up there, lol.

He was on the far side of the stage from me (or vice versa) and bathed in red/darkness for most of the three songs so I didn’t get too many of him.

Ah, wish I’d gotten him holding the mic still.

It’s always challenging to get shots of the drummer, but I’m glad I got this one. He’s having so much fun!

I felt I’d gotten enough by this point so I switched to my ultra-wide angle to try to get shots of the whole band!

This was also the first time using the zoom lens that came with my GX1 and I experimented with more of the manual controls as well. The black-and-white trick came in handy and I had to combine shots a few times, haha. Definitely a fun experience and one that challenged my photo skills!

Oh, and the band was pretty good, too! Had never heard them before, even though I guess Kaya had performed solo at PMX previously.

Pacific Media Expo 2015, Days 1-2: Overview

19 January 2016

Pacific Media Expo changed dates and venues for 2015, taking place on Labor Day Weekend and returning to Pasadena for the first time since 2010!

I’d been hoping for a return to Pasadena, since it was close to many great places to nom and offered lots of cheap places to park. The Pasadena area is also quite lovely; I didn’t really take advantage of it last time, but this time I managed to get a photoshoot in!

It’s my friend Tomoyo-chan as Big Hero 6‘s Honey Lemon!

So many pretty dresses for you to buy; J-fashion is a big part of PMX!

Geoff Pascual was here last year, and his art continues to amaze!

So many plushies!

Managed to take in a few panels, including a fan-fiction writing one and this one hosted by dolldelight!

My favorite part of PMX is the Swap Meet!

Although it was competing against three or four other cons that weekend, I still managed to enjoy myself, running into many friends I hadn’t seen in quite a while (including my friend Nitemare1004 as male Caitlyn from League of Legends), checking out the cosplay masquerade, and even taking in a concert!

PMX has already announced the date and venue for 2016 and I’m happy to report that they’ll be back in Pasadena in November!

PMX / dolldelight Fashion Show [2015]

18 August 2015

I ran into my friend Risu Kim at Tokyo Status the night before (album coming soon since this is batched with Cherry Blossom) and she asked if I’d be going to the dolldelight Fashion Show at the Monterey Park Cherry Blossom Festival the next day. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to make it due to scheduling, but I’m happy I did. There were only a handful of outfits on display so it was a good thing I wasn’t late!

This year, they changed the layout to one of a more traditional catwalk. For the first time, the models walked off the stage into the audience to allow everyone a closer look at the outfits. It allowed me to get some nice (clear? lol) shots without too many heads getting in the way!

It’s my friend Risu Kim! Had just seen her the night before at Tokyo Status!

dolldelight likes to change up her models so here’s a face I hadn’t seen before!

EDIT: I can’t believe it’s actually my friend Ashi Chan! She looks so different! I even saw her the night before at Tokyo Status! :O

It’s dolldelight herself!

Did she seem me snapping, or did she just pause for effect?

There was a bit of trickery involved in this photo, as it’s actually a composite of two different shots. ^^;

Though the show ran a brisk five minutes or so, it’s always a pleasure to see dolldelight’s handiwork (as well as her lovely models, of course)!
