Looking for Miku Anniversary at PMX [2022]!

04 October 2022

Can you believe it’s been almost three years since the last time we screened Looking for Miku?! :O

Thanks to the pandemic, we haven’t been able to go to a con since Anime Los Angeles back in January 2020. We even missed our fifth anniversary, which would’ve taken place last year! 😦

Well, fret not, since we’ll be returning to Pacific Media Expo and screening on Friday, 21 October, at 7PM! And since we were given a longer-than-usual block, we’re going to do something we’ve been meaning to do for a while — screen the annotated version of the film!

Looking for Miku is my love letter to anime and pop culture so it’s chock full of Easter eggs; from sight gags to lines of dialogue, there’s some sort of homage every 24 seconds! With onscreen notes, the annotated version will point them all out as well as share bits of trivia about the production.

Looking for Miku PMX22

Come watch the award-winning* anime fan film, chat with the filmmakers about it, then see how many of the geek references you caught with the annotated version! (Admission to PMX is required to attend). RSVP on Facebook, and hope to see you there!

Looking for Miku’s “We Were on a Break!” Screening [2020]!

14 January 2020

Thank you to everyone who attended AGC Pictures‘s
Looking for Miku
panel at Anime Los Angeles and who otherwise supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

Unfortunately the film’s producer, David Infante, had to cancel but it was great to share the stage once again with star Jackson Chong. Very happy for your great questions as well! Sorry for the late start but technical issues are becoming an ALA thing for us I guess; that’s 2 out of 3 panels/screenings that got FUBARed but at least we actually got to show the film! Thanks again and hope to see you next time!

In the meantime, follow the blog (by clicking the “Resistance is Futile” button) or Like any of my Pages (jimsha, The Vault/Beginning Story, and agc pictures) on Facebook to be instantly notified of new adventures. See you again soon!

Looking for Miku at Anime LA [2020]!

07 January 2020

Happy new year!

Apologies once more for the lack of updates; 2019 somehow wound up being even more meh than 2018. -_-; One day I’ll get caught up on all my photos and anime recaps (looks at digital stack of stuff from 2016)… hopefully. Maybe when I’m a Bitcoin millionaire, lol. Anyway, I’m happy to report that we’ll be at Anime Los Angeles this weekend to screen Looking for Miku! Can’t believe the last time we held one of these was over a year ago in 2018! :O

Come watch the award-winning* anime fan film then stay after the show to talk with the filmmakers about the film, con crushes, and other topics! (Admission to ALA is required to attend). RSVP on Facebook, and hope to see you there!

The Little Mermaid Turns 30! #FinGirlIsBestGirl #LittleMermaid30 #The LittleMermaid30 #Mermaid30 #Disney [2019]

17 November 2019

After being away for over a year (don’t ask, it’s not a great story), I’ve resurfaced (get it??) to wish Waifu #1 Ariel a Happy Birthday!

The Little Mermaid was released thirty years ago on Friday, 17 November 1989, by Walt Disney Animation Studios (known as Walt Disney Feature Animation at the time) as its 28th full-length animated feature. It was a critical and commercial success, winning two Academy Awards and becoming the highest grossing animated film in history up to that point.

Spawning a TV series, two animated sequels, a Broadway show, theme park dark rides, live concerts, and more, The Little Mermaid also revived Disney’s corporate fortunes and ushered in what is now referred to as the Disney Renaissance. You’re welcome, all you Star Wars and Marvel nerds. :p

I think my love for Ariel is obvious to anyone who has spent any time with me or on this blog. I mean, you’ve seen my mascot, right? ^^;

Looking for Miku Logo

Or maybe the Roadshow version of my award-winning short film Looking for Miku, which contains both subtle and not-so-subtle references?

Neither me nor how I write my blog

Even when I started this blog (10 years ago!! :O Happy birthday, blog!), the first pages and images I put up were Ariel-related.

A lot has changed since I met Ariel, but she’s still Waifu #1! I thought about doing a countdown of posts leading to the big anniversary but I got lazy and there’s a tag for that anyway. 😉 I hope you’ll poke around and revisit my adventures with everyone’s favorite red-headed mermaid. ❤

01 November 2018

Thank you to everyone who attended AGC Pictures‘s
Looking for Miku
panel at Pacific Media Expo and who otherwise supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

Great to have my friend David Infante (the film’s producer) share the stage with me. Apparently I wasn’t very audible during the Q&A session so I apologize; next time I’ll try to get closer to the mic. ^^; Hope to see you all again soon!

Miku’s Hollywood Dreamz! [2018]

14 August 2018

We were fortunate enough to screen Looking for Miku last year in Las Vegas at Action on Film International Film Festival (AOF) where we were named Runner Up for Best Childrens/Young Adult Film. This year, we’re back at AOF’s sister festival, Hollywood Dreamz, where we’re also up for two awards!

Looking for Miku is up for Best Student Film and one of our leads, Tiffany Wolff, is up for Best Young Performer Female – Feature or Short! So proud of her!

Hollywood Dreamz is taking place at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas beginning Thursday, 16 August 2018, and running through Saturday, 25 August 2018. There are sure to be lots of great films and celebrity sightings; hope you can make it! Otherwise, follow the blog (by clicking the “Resistance is Futile” button) or Like any of my Pages (jimsha, The Vault/Beginning Story, and agc pictures) on Facebook to be instantly notified of new screenings!

Looking for Miku’s Hollywood Premiere! [2018]

03 July 2018

Thank you to everyone who attended AGC Pictures‘s award-winning* anime fan film Looking for Miku‘s red carpet Hollywood premiere at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres as part of HollyShorts Monthly Screenings! Thanks also to those who supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

We led off the block and then, for some reason, we were followed by four foreign films (guess they were confused because we have subs, lol). Most of them were pretty slick-looking and seemed to have high production values — no doubt due to the cooperation they got from their country’s film offices. I was awed that I was able to show my low-budget, guerilla-style, rough-around-the-edges first film alongside them! After a few other shorts, there was a very brief Q&A session. The previous block had run over so the host kept it short; even though he said he had questions for each of the creators on-stage, he actually only asked one of us a question.

Back in the lobby, everyone submitted their vote for Audience Favorite, aka “the filmmaker who did the best job of packing the audience”. (I think more honest results would’ve been achieved if they’d asked everyone to vote for their top two — basically, their friend’s film and their actual favorite). I didn’t expect us to win so I wasn’t disappointed, but I was very, very happy that everyone seemed to enjoy the film even though they had never heard of Hatsune Miku or Vocaloids!

Hopefully there will be more screenings in the future! Keep updated by following the blog (by clicking the “Resistance is Futile” button) or Liking any of my Pages (jimsha, The Vault/Beginning Story, and agc pictures) on Facebook to be instantly notified!
