Anime Expo 2016 Goodsmile Racing

20 December 2016

The final post of 2016 is the final post from Anime Expo! This supplement features the Goodsmile Racing exhibit and related itasha!

Good Smile Company introduced Goodsmile Racing in 2008. With Crypton Future Media’s Hatsune Miku as its Race Queen mascot and fans as its sponsors, GSR won Japan’s 2011 Super GT GT300 class series race and continues to churn out new mascot designs and merchandise every year.

The first Racing Miku was illustrated by redjuice, an artist I actually have an artbook by (although I don’t think this Miku is really indicative of his style).

The only Racing Miku figure I have is the 2012 version, which features in my film Looking for Miku!

Not much on display for 2016’s season but you could buy Nendoroid and figma (not pictured) versions of Racing Miku along with other GSR goods.

Here are 3D versions of Racing Miku’s outfits!

Of course, there were a few GSR and Vocaloid-inspired itasha on display as well!

Someone with good taste decided to go with Racing Luka instead!

Hey, it’s peppymiint cosplay!

See the full album on my Fan Page on Facebook and be sure to Like The Vault on Facebook, where I’m finally caught up through 2010! 😀

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Anime Expo 2016 Itasha

13 December 2016

The second supplemental album from AX2016 is the first of two featuring itasha (cars decorated with anime, manga, and video game characters)!

Danny Choo‘s Suenaga Mirai featured on this itasha and itachari (decorated bicycle).

This Angel Beats! fan also loves In-N-Out, as we all should!

Still haven’t seen this Kantai Collection (Kancolle) that’s everywhere.

I had no idea what this was from until I looked up Kagerou. I will say, though, that my Haruhi-inspired “Obey” logo is better. 😉

Here’s another Vocaloid-inspired itasha. This owner must really love Black Rock Shooter since the license plate says “BRS” and there was a cosplay jacket on display along with some other props.

Don’t know too much about To Love-Ru, but when this Yami cosplayer showed up I had to get her with the car!

Itasha featuring Race Queen versions of the pilots from Evangelion!

Fan-owned itansha (motorcycles) like this Sailor Moon bike were also on display in the Entertainment Hall.

Looking for Miku Screening! [2016]

15 November 2016

Thank you to everyone who attended AGC Pictures‘s Looking for Miku panel at PMX and who otherwise supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

Although we had a bit of a late start due to the panel before us running late, we were able to screen the film and do a brief Q&A. I was very happy to have my friend (and one of our leads) Jackson Chong join me! Thanks for all the great questions and I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the film and panel. Please join us again next time!

In the meantime, follow the blog (by clicking the “Resistance is Futile” button) or Like any of my Pages (jimsha, The Vault/Beginning Story, and agc pictures) on Facebook to be instantly notified of new adventures. See you again soon!

Looking for Miku Screening at PMX [2016]!

08 November 2016

No post this week as we’re prepping for this weekend’s panel for Looking for Miku!

We’ll be screening the Renewal ver. (the final, completed form) of the award-nominated anime fan film and holding a Q&A with the filmmakers on November 12 (Saturday, Day 2) at the place where it all started, Pacific Media Expo, in LP1 Ballroom B&C (admission to PMX is required to attend). RSVP on Facebook, and hope to see you there!

Looking for Miku Updates! [2016]

21 June 2016

As you may’ve seen from my earlier post, we finally had the premiere for Looking for Miku during Ninja-Con 2016. Well, I’m happy to finally release the official trailer on my YouTube Channel!

For a while I wasn’t really sure how to go about making a trailer since it’s a short film and I didn’t want to get too spoiler-y, but a lot of festivals and contests require one so I had to come up with something.

Ultimately, just as I structured Looking for Miku as an anime OVA episode, I decided to style the trailer after various anime TV commercials (CMs) and promo spots. This meant featuring shots of our stars, mixing in some dialogue/voice over (VO) that sets up the film’s main conflict, and adding in some weeby bits to try to get the humor across. There really is an art to cutting trailers and hopefully I managed to communicate the fun and playful aspects of the film along with a taste of the story!

Looking for Miku Ninja-Con 2016

Also, Otaku;Hourly recently posted their coverage of Ninja-Con and talked about our film and panel for nearly 10 minutes. While it does contain some factual inaccuracies (and spoilers!), it was a positive review. Find it starting at around the 4 minute mark here!

Still making minor tweaks to the film and prepping for Anime Expo, so this is likely the last post until after the holiday. A safe and happy Independence Day weekend to all our American friends!

Looking for Miku’s Premiere! [2016]

07 June 2016

I want to personally thank each of you who attended agc pictures‘s Looking for Miku panel at Ninja-Con and otherwise supported us by sharing and promoting the event!

Although there were still sound issues (this time with the sound mixer, apparently), at least we were able to screen it! I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the film and panel, and that you’ll join us again next time. Thank you once more!

While there are a few more tweaks I’d like to make to the film, I’ll be taking a break from it for a little while so hopefully I’ll get back to some regular posts here. In the meantime, follow the blog (by clicking the “Resistance is Futile” button) or Like any of my Pages (jimsha, The Vault/Beginning Story, and agc pictures) on Facebook to be instantly notified of new adventures. See you again soon!
