Anime Expo 2016 Itasha

13 December 2016

The second supplemental album from AX2016 is the first of two featuring itasha (cars decorated with anime, manga, and video game characters)!

Danny Choo‘s Suenaga Mirai featured on this itasha and itachari (decorated bicycle).

This Angel Beats! fan also loves In-N-Out, as we all should!

Still haven’t seen this Kantai Collection (Kancolle) that’s everywhere.

I had no idea what this was from until I looked up Kagerou. I will say, though, that my Haruhi-inspired “Obey” logo is better. πŸ˜‰

Here’s another Vocaloid-inspired itasha. This owner must really love Black Rock Shooter since the license plate says “BRS” and there was a cosplay jacket on display along with some other props.

Don’t know too much about To Love-Ru, but when this Yami cosplayer showed up I had to get her with the car!

Itasha featuring Race Queen versions of the pilots from Evangelion!

Fan-owned itansha (motorcycles) like this Sailor Moon bike were also on display in the Entertainment Hall.

Anime Expo 2016, Day 3

25 October 2016

Day 3 was a pretty lazy day; finally got to check out the Dealers Hall in earnest with my friends, looking at drool-worthy goods and double-dipping on, of course, Your Lie in April stuff. xD;

I think this is D.Va from Overwatch, no?

I’m waiting for One Piece to finish before I start it, but I have a feeling it’ll be a very, very long time.

Awesome Ryuuko (Kill la Kill) cosplayer.

I’ve only been able to watch a couple of episodes of Kabaneri, but it’s awesome, just like this Mumei cosplayer! (Incidentally, the character designs for that show were done by none other than Mikimoto Haruhiko, who designed characters for the original Macross and Gunbuster, including waifu Takaya Noriko.)

Having finally finished reading Sailor Moon, I can actually recognize most of these Sailor Scouts! (The manga wasn’t in color so I’m still not 100% sure on of some of them.)

I’ve always liked this Sakura Taisen kit despite not knowing anything about the show, but there’s no way I’d be able to put one together even though it’s already in color!

Some Snow Miku and default Miku Dollfies on display with Senbonzakura Miku!

I don’t usually go for third-party (ie, unofficial) merch, but I was very severely tempted by these epic versions of G1 Transformers Scorponok and the Dinobots! (I’m not really sure how Scorponok would look in his alt modes, though.)

I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of One Punch Man, but it was pretty funny! They had special events at the con but I only really saw a couple of cosplayers from the series.

Day 3 loot, where I finished my sets of three, lol. Why three? Why, one to keep, one to use, and one as backup, of course! Details in the Facebook album!

Anime Expo 2015, Days 0-2

03 November 2015

After taking time out last year to work on Looking for Miku, I managed to make it back to Anime Expo!

While a lot of things were still the same as the last time I went in 2013, some things were different. For example, it actually took longer to walk over to the convention center from the hotel than it took to get my badge! It almost makes that extra ~$5 convenience charge worth it (though they could just build it into the price of the badge instead of tacking it on separately).

The Minions was going to be premiering the next week and they had these awesome posters up on the street!

Kawasumi Ayako Q&A panel on Day 1! Most of the questions were about the Fate series, but there were a few from Mahoromatic!

After the Kawasumi Ayako Q&A panel I stayed for the Studio Trigger panel since I already had a seat, lol.

Prolly the biggest and most amazing WTF of the con, a Big Hero 6 presented by two Disney animators who worked on the film!

We hit up the dance after the Big Hero 6 panel.

Look at all the food trucks! I remember last time (2013) that lot was charging 40 bucks; guess food trucks pay more!

Ran into my friend Mari Aerony (as Yang Xiao Long from RWBY) on Day 2 at a panel and managed to catch up!

This Flash cosplay couple was awesome!

This Harley Quinn was awesome; love the mallet!

I really need to watch Love Live!

Hey, I think I recognize one of these Final Fantasy cosplayers from last year’s Ninja-Con!

Found the AX banner at West Hall!

Ran into my friend Aoi Mizuno, who was working (I believe) at the Viz Booth.

I didn’t really tell anyone besides my roomies that I was going to be attending, so I was able to enjoy the con at a more leisurely pace than I’ve been able to in a while. Even though I missed out on photoshoots and catching up with some folks, I was able to spend more time doing my own thing and it made the time I spent running into friends that much more special! Be sure to check out the other days at con, coming soon!

FanimeCon 2014, Days 2-4

01 July 2014

Here is the second post covering the remaining days of FanimeCon 2014!

Most of Day 2 was spent checking out the Dealers Hall and tagging along with Sojian-senpai as he shot with It’s Itsuka and her friends… twice! Look for those albums coming soon.

I’m not sure if this was a DC vs Capcom group. I thought it was supposed to be Marvel vs Capcom?

So many pretty Ariel arts! β™₯

View from the catwalk at The Fairmont. Finally went back to Bijan for the first time since my first photoshoot with Aoi Mizuno and shyot way back in 2011! :O

As expected, there were a crapton of Kill la Kill (キルラキル) cosplayers this con! Here are the Nudist Beach vers. of Inumuta Houka, Jakuzure Nonon, Kiryuuin Satsuki, Gamagouri Ira, and two(?) Mikisugi Aikurous!

Ran into this Ariel at the beginning of Day 3! Day 3 was Black & White Ball, so after spending most of the afternoon with my lovely friend Luna Lovely I had to run all the way back to the DoubleTree to get ready before spending the evening with many nattily dressed otaku.

This steampunk-inspired Sailor Moon group was super awesome!

Twenty years of Fanime!

First Akuma Homura I’ve ever seen and the first Madokami I’ve seen in a while!

The last day is always a short one, but oddly enough I wound up taking the most pictures at con on Day 4! :3a

Having recently finished Kill la Kill, I was happy to actually recognize so many cosplays from this wildly popular show. Was able to snag Matoi Ryuuko as she was running to a photoshoot!

Mankanshoku Mako was taking a break but she was kind enough to let me take a couple of shots. I love Mako Fight Club President ver.’s brass knuckles!

Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan.

Quick peek at the new fixture/sculpture that replaced the pool/fountain.

While FanimeCon fell short for me this year for reasons both related and unrelated to the con itself, I still got to hang out with my friends, meet some new people, and (re)learn some important life lessons. Hopefully the rest of the year’s cons go more smoothly!

In the Name of the Moon [Apr 2014]

22 April 2014

Happened to be in Little Tokyo for a friend’s party at the beginning of the month when Q Pop opened their Magical Girl Heroines: Sailor Moon and sailor senshi art show. Remembering the last time I attended a show opening there (for Star Trek), I knew there wasn’t much hope of my getting inside so I only stopped by for a quick peek.

No food truck, but there was ice cream!

Huge line of folks and it was almost closing time; I’m sure there were many disappointed Sailor Scouts. :<

This is the closest I got to being inside, lol.

There were a few cosplayers in attendance, but I had to run off so I didn’t get to take any pictures of them. :/

The next couple of weeks brought more Moon-related madness. Heard that Jupiter would be hanging out with the Moon so went and took a peek!

There was also the Blood Moon total lunar eclipse. I believe that’s Saturn nearby, not that you can really tell from the shake. :p

I haven’t really done any astrophotography (unless you count that one time at Disneyland, lol) and I don’t have a tripod, but it’s one more thing to add to the list of things to learn! No extra photos in the album on my Facebook Page, but feel free to give it a visit and tag folks you may know!
