Kouraku and Canine & Feline Charity Art Show [2016]

14 March 2017

Went to Kouraku for dinner then wound up checking out Q Pop‘s Canine & Feline Charity Art Show, where 10% of the proceeds went to benefit North Central Animal Shelter.

Tonkatsu (breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet) is one of my favorite Japanese dishes.

Here’s a look at some of the puppies and kitties your purchases helped.

Didn’t realize that “purrmaids” (cat mermaids) were a thing.

The colors are different, but the blockiness of this unicorn cat reminds me of Unikitty from The Lego Movie!

This Mazinger is pretty impressive even when you don’t consider the fact that a large amount of it is cardboard.

Heroes reference?

Animals driving vehicles — they’re just like us!

You can buy prints from Dreamworks background painter Ji Soo Kim along with the second Cosplay in America book.

There’s always something new to check out in Little Tokyo!

See the full album on my Fan Page on Facebook and be sure to Like The Vault on Facebook, where I’m finally caught up through 2010! 😀

In the Name of the Moon [Apr 2014]

22 April 2014

Happened to be in Little Tokyo for a friend’s party at the beginning of the month when Q Pop opened their Magical Girl Heroines: Sailor Moon and sailor senshi art show. Remembering the last time I attended a show opening there (for Star Trek), I knew there wasn’t much hope of my getting inside so I only stopped by for a quick peek.

No food truck, but there was ice cream!

Huge line of folks and it was almost closing time; I’m sure there were many disappointed Sailor Scouts. :<

This is the closest I got to being inside, lol.

There were a few cosplayers in attendance, but I had to run off so I didn’t get to take any pictures of them. :/

The next couple of weeks brought more Moon-related madness. Heard that Jupiter would be hanging out with the Moon so went and took a peek!

There was also the Blood Moon total lunar eclipse. I believe that’s Saturn nearby, not that you can really tell from the shake. :p

I haven’t really done any astrophotography (unless you count that one time at Disneyland, lol) and I don’t have a tripod, but it’s one more thing to add to the list of things to learn! No extra photos in the album on my Facebook Page, but feel free to give it a visit and tag folks you may know!

BEAM ME UP : Star Trek Art Show [Feb 2013]

19 March 2013

While a lot of people caught con plague at Anime LA, I just wound up with a case of the flu that prevented me from enjoying a few events such as the Riverside Lunar Festival. :< However, by Valentine's Day in mid-February I was well enough to venture back out again!

Of course, I celebrated by heading out to Little Tokyo to meet up with some friends! I’m not sure if the sign in this store in Weller Court has always been here, but I just thought it was funny. 😄

We headed over to Ebisu to grab some noms and we took over the “boat” table in the middle of the restaurant! The table has many interesting touches, such as this lantern made of ropes. I love the colors!

I was with The OtaKing, who usually makes little avatars of friends who can’t join us for whatever reason. Here, our friend joins the OtaKing’s Nendoroid and another friend’s flask, both of which match well with the boat theme!

Dinner! I’m pretty boring, so it’s usually either ramen or katsu for me, lol. There was a lot of food, and I didn’t even finish it all!

After dinner, we hoofed it over to a local art gallery/shop called Q Pop. It was the opening night of their BEAM ME UP: STAR TREK ART SHOW. As you may recall, I’m a huge Star Trek fan!

They had a grilled cheese truck, videos playing on large screens, and many of the artists in attendance, but it was so incredibly packed that we didn’t get to go inside. :/

But it’s okay, I got to meet René Auberjonois! I’m not sure if he was a guest or just happened to be in the area, since he had been at The Grand Slam Show (Creation Entertainment’s Star Trek convention) earlier in the day. When I told him I was a huge The Little Mermaid fan, he sang me the first lines of “Les Poissons”! ^_____^

It was great to get out of the house again and hang out with my friends! Looking forward to the next adventure!
