Even though we’re already halfway into 2016, I’ve been so busy sweatshopping Looking for Miku that the last post from 2015 was only a few weeks ago so now’s as good a time as any to recap last year’s cons!
Hard to believe, but the number of cons I went to was even lower than in 2014, when I went to five cons (seven if you count the two double-cons of Robo Toy Fest × Brick Boutique [May 2014] and FanimeCon/Clockwork Alchemy 2014 as four separate cons). I was still working on my short film, Looking for Miku, so the first con of the year for me was about a year ago, in June: Ninja-Con 2015! Since it’s run by my good friend D-boy and I was staffing as usual, there’s no way I could miss it!
After skipping AX14 to work on my film (a lot of help that was, lol), I made my return to Anime Expo. Since I wasn’t on Facebook, no one besides the friends I was staying with even knew I was there! It was a fun way to enjoy the con, just randomly running into friends who were surprised and happy to see me, without the stress of trying to meet up with people or sticking to a schedule. I got to enjoy the con on my own terms, was able to take in some cool panels, and spent more time that I usually get to with my closest friends; maybe I should drop off of Facebook more often!
I wasn’t the only one to skip a year, as D23 Expo, the biennial Disney convention, also returned! I managed to make it down for Day 3 but spent most of it in line waiting for the privilege of giving Mickey my money. ^^; I did manage to see some cool stuff from upcoming film, television, theme park, and other projects as well as some awesome cosplays!
As with 2014, I closed out 2015’s cons with a visit to PMX (although it was way earlier than usual since it took place over Labor Day weekend in September instead of Veteran’s Day weekend in November). It was the first time I was able to take advantage of being press and I managed to get some great (well, great for me, lol) photos during the Femme Fatale concert!
Here’s looking forward to the cons of 2016!
