Team LA JAPAN 2015 New Year’s Celebration

The last time I’d been at the Downtown Independent was for the Tiger & Bunny film and the last time I’d seen my friends from Tune in Tokyo was at their 5th Anniversary Party, so I was happy to visit with both at Team LA JAPAN’s 2015 New Year’s Celebration!

While I did miss the screening of the award-winning Seven Souls in the Skull Castle (a film of a stage play from the writer of Kill La Kill and Gurren Lagann), I made it in time to catch the rest of the celebration, which included a live performance by Chii Sakurabi (who I last saw at Ninja-Con), an art show from ninja*arts, a cosplay contest, and music by Tune in Tokyo!

Some lovely artwork from the art show hosted by ninja*arts.

This Mori Hideyuki piece was one of my favorites from the art show.

So many boxes of Pocky, but I missed out on the Ramune! D:

Tune in Tokyo’s DJ Greg with Team LA JAPAN’s Sera.

Some of the folks who worked behind the scenes to bring you this event! The event’s organizers included Team LA Japan, Japan Connection, and Tune in Tokyo.

Even the employees of the Downtown Independent dressed up!

A lot of folks were dressed up in kimonos!

Chii Sakurabi always puts on a dynamic show!

Can’t remember the last time I’d seen my friend zero (aka Deathpop)!

Cosplay contest judge Mr. Sunlight chats with fellow attendees.

After the cosplay contest, all the contestants gathered for a group photo.

What a great way to ring in the new year, with friends new and old!
