Post Twelve of The Twelve Posts of Christmas is a Flashback 2012! After a weekend of magical girls, it was time for some giant robots as I went back in time to celebrate my gateway anime Macross (マクロス)’s 30th anniversary at MacrossWorld Convention!
MacrossWorld is a small event run by fans but it didn’t stop them from gathering some impressive collections, awesome cosplayers, and the one and only Mari Iijima (who actually dubbed both the Japanese and English voices of Lynn Minmay / Minmei)!
Macross came out 30 years ago, but Mari Iijima looks so young! :O
Hey, it’s RisaLight! I see her everywhere now! 🙂
Haruhiko Mikimoto (HAL) is one of my favorite character designers! Not only did he do the designs for Macross, but he also did the designs for Gunbuster, my favorite anime of all-time!
Lots of rare and expensive goodies for sale at this booth! Robo Toy Fest is another small, local convention that I’ll be posting about soon!
Haha, one of my favorite scenes from Super Dimensional Fortress Macross The Movie: Do You Remember Love? (超時空要塞マクロス 愛・おぼえていますか / Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Ai Oboete Imasu ka) is captured here in this custom kit!
Here’s another custom kit. The builder had Mari Iijima sign it, since it’s one of the Minmay Guard Valkyries.
Many original signboards! One of the highlights was the collection on display in this and the next couple of pictures. It’s all one fan’s loots! :O
I want both of these plushies!
So many models! I really should get caught up on the Macross universe.
The event took place at a school called Concept Cube Design, which I believe offers classes in computer graphics and modeling. Many cool toys and models were on display, including these awesome Marvel maquettes!
1/1 scale Battle of the Planets aka Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン / Kagaku Ninjatai Gatchaman) helmets!
The school apparently has a love for Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン / Shin Seiki Evangelion)!
Hnnnnnnng. Not sure if this is a permanent display or just for the MacrossWorld event. So many awesome in here though!
It was a cool little con, and a great trip down Memory Lane. Many more photos in the album on my Facebook!
